Exteriors

The all-steel shells of our canal boats embody the flowing, elegant lines of the local Black Country boat building heritage. Most have large, cruiser style sterns, allowing ample space for the helmsman and crew members, and external seating is provided on both rear and fore decks; some boats feature a more classic, traditional or semi-traditional stern.

The floor plan of ‘Sir Bruin’ (shown below) is typical of the Countrywide Cruisers fleet. Layout plans for other cruisers can be found on each relevant boat page.

All our boats have a beam of 6’10”, a draught of between 1’8” and 2’ and at least 6’2” of cabin headroom. They carry sufficient gas and diesel fuel for a three week cruise and are fitted with 100 gallon fresh water tanks. Four cylinder, water-cooled diesel engines are installed on flexible mounts, with special transmissions to ensure peaceful cruising. Full gas central heating systems provide comfort throughout the cruising season.

Interiors

Extensive use of solid hardwoods with matching oak and ash veneers are teamed with carefully co-ordinated soft furnishings to create light, airy interiors of rare distinction. Sleeping cabins have full length wardrobes with ample further storage provided by built-in cupboard and/or drawer units. Most boats have at least one permanently made up double bed and several have two, each fitted with high quality, interior sprung mattresses. All berths are a minimum of 6’3” in length and pillows, duvets and all bed linen required are supplied. Where possible, raised saloon areas are incorporated in the design to allow guests an unimpeded, all-round scenic view.

Galleys

Planned and equipped to satisfy the most fastidious cook, with a domestic size 4 burner gas cooker, with large oven and grill, and a 4 cu. ft. electric fridge with full width freezer compartment. A full range of matching crockery and cutlery is provided together with an extensive selection of quality utensils and kitchen ware.

Bathrooms

Piping hot water on tap is derived from the engine driven calorifier and the gas boiler. Large showers with high pressure shower units and fresh water flush, china toilets offer genuine home comforts. Clothes drying facilities and a 240V shaver socket are provided for your convenience.

Inventory

A full inventory will be supplied on board and we will endeavour to meet any special requirements which you may have. All you really need to bring are your personal towels and clothing – appropriate soft-soled shoes are a must and wet weather gear a wise precaution in deference to the vagaries of the British climate. We can even provide your initial provisions for you if you complete and return our Grocery Order Form.

Electrics

Generally 12v DC with separate circuits for engine starting and cabin services, which include carefully planned lighting, pressurised water system, shaver socket (240v), fridge, colour television, radio/CD player and a charger socket for mobile phone/video camera power packs. In addition our five star boats are fitted with inverters to provide a 240v power supply.

Testimonials

We have had an amazing time on our first canal trip. We headed towards Chester….this was perfect for us as we stopped wherever took our fancy and we made use of the canal side pubs!”
